To set off our Feminine & Fabulous Series at Gidilounge, we present to you, Eva, with the release of her single Relentless, Eva has been able to garner enough attention and with extraordinary amount of talent to prove herself as one of the artist to look out for, alongside Knighthouses Mo’Cheddah, and EME’s Wizkid and Skales, Thisday coined them the future of music and I would have to agree.

Her voice is unique, her style different and to use a cliché which is apt in this case her Swag is undiluted, invigorating and clearly uniquely hers. Her voice distinguishes, her flow deviant, distinct yet exceptional and her authenticity apparent.  In a largely male dominated industry Eva seems to be making her point and looking hella good doing it.

We caught up with Eva and had the opportunity to get to know her and ask her what she has in store for us. Although Eva has more of an online presence at the moment I can guarantee yall that the sky is her starting point and this artist has a long way to go and we are definitely in for a surprise. Should been an interesting journey; Diidi’s Opinion.

Tell us about yourself, we know your name is Eva Alordiah but where
are you from, where did you grow up, school etc?

I’m from Delta State. I spent a little part of my childhood in the
north, Niger State, moved to Lagos when I was 9 and I’ve been in Gidi
ever since. I just graduated from Bowen University in 2009, studied
Computer Science.

Would you say you are from a musical family?

My family isn’t one you’d call a musical family but everyone has an
ear for music. My Mom especially. She got me hooked on Dolly Parton,
Michael Bolton, Don Williams and many more while growing up. I picked
up Hip-hop/R&B along the way and it just stuck.

What made you choose music, was it always something you knew you would do?

Entertainment in general was something I was always faced with. I
found myself in one form of entertainment or the other while growing
up, though music wasn’t necessarily of much importance to me as a
career. From dancing to acting, script Writing, photography modelling,
pretty much anything that would keep me in the centre of all the fun
of entertainment. Music began to kick in when I was in Secondary
school and I took it up full time just before I got into University.

What challenges have you faced in your journey thus far and how
long have you been doing this?

I have been in Music professionally since 2004. Started with Z-don
back then. But I had to get into school so I wasn’t focused. Late 2008
however, I made a cover on Lil Wayne’s “A milli” with the help of Tha
Suspect and it dropped as a mix tape single. From then till now, the
journey has been rough-smooth-rough-then rough- Sometimes it gets
tiring especially when you are a female on the grind by yourself in the
industry but my fans keep me on my feet so I can’t complain much.
Doing this all by myself however brings on a lot of challenges in
business but I have learned to take my challenges as stepping stones
to greatness.

Do you sometimes feel there are two different yous… Eva the
singer and Eva the….?

Absolutely! The musical/rapper/entertainer Eva is totally different
from the Eva in the house when my Dad calls me Elohor(my native name)
Two entirely different people though there are times when they come
together to be one for sanity sakes. When I’m not the musical Eva- I’m
taking care of the house, sewing a new dress or most probably being a
Makeup artist… Many other minnie Me’s.

What genre of music do you consider categorize yourself to be in?
Would you agree with the general assessment that you are a femcee?

Femcee, meaning Female Emcee innit? Whatever people choose to call me
its aight as long as it doesn’t make me look bad or rub off on the
image I’m trying to build. I do hip-hop and I’m an Entertainer. I hope
that makes sense.  The EvaMusic however is going to come off on a
whole lot of different things. I like to fuse genres together-as long
as it works and sounds good and people can relate with it then I guess
it’s ok.

Are you currently signed to a record label?
No I’m not. I’m totally independent. Managed by God, Directed by God. Lmao!

Typical question but who writes your song?
I do. I write everything myself. Except of course when it’s a
collaboration in which case the collaborating artist writes his/herpart of the song.

How has your music evolved/changed or developed since you started
and do you think it’s obvious or significant ?

Obvious? Lyrical growth, attitude, my sound delivery, pretty much
everything. My very first song “I dey Play” with Suspect is evidence
enough. I think about it now and it’s amazing how much I hate that song
now. I hear it and go – “Did I do that??”
I think this kinda of growth is definitely significant; it’s the only
way to stay consistent and have a career that exudes longevity.

What would you say or who would you consider to be your biggest
musical influence?

Eminem.

How did you get on that Underrated track with ID Cabasa…. I think you killed it
Lmao! Thanks love. **clearing throat** I met Cabasa in d club. We
got chatting and he wanted to hear my stuff. He did and just thought I
was perfect for his album since he was bringing different artistes
together on the project. Underrated was the one I featured in
eventually and it was amazing working with Cabasa. We are working
together again at the moment, this time around on my project. I’m
excited about it.

What are your immediate music career goals?
Getting my music out and building Eva as a brand and not just an
artiste. I have dropped a couple of singles on the internet which I’m
just about spreading across the country. I have just begun working on
my album-so I’m basically hoping for the best. The very BEST!

So here’s saying thank you to everyone that has listened to any of my
songs and liked em, to everyone that supports me and what I do-thank
you, thank You!

A Fake Smile?

On the 27th of March 2010, We introduced Smiley

Smiley, whose real name is Giovanna Akindele, was born in Italy to Nigerian parents but was raised in Nigeria. Smiley is a passionate singer, rap artiste, songwriter, and performer. Her official music career began at the age of 13 in the UK. Her music reaches the very deep ends of your soul, groping, searching for all irregular contours, and lightly smoothening them all up, She has a purely elegant distinctive style, Talent in its early stage. Smiley is a name that is about to blow.

We had an exclusive audio interview with her on the 28th of March 2010

Please refer to 1:10 when Didi asked her if she wrote all her songs, her answer was ‘Yes I write all my songs and they are based on people’s lives and not mine but yes I write all my songs’

Didi went on to ask if she wrote the single ‘Body Language’ , her answer was and I quote ‘Yes I did, I wrote body language’

Apparently, Natalia Kills also known as Natalia Cappuccini owns the rights to a particular record called ‘Body Language’ .

We are not going to make any conclusions but we leave you to decide. Please compare Smiley’s Body Language and Natalia’s below

Rugged Man’s Revealing Phone Conversation with 9ice over Toni Payne Affair

Phone Conversaton between Ruggedman and 9ice

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

It started as a rumour that 9ice caught his wife Toni Payne giving Ruggedman a blow job. I wondered where such a terrible rumour emanated from only to find out it was from 9ices song titled ”once bitten twice shy”.In the song done by my own friend,he sang that he saw his ”girl” (Not his wife Toni Payne) giving his ”friend”(Not Ruggedman) a blow job.Since 9ice himself did not mention anybodys name in the said song I thought nothing of the evil, wicked rumour, but it spread wider and i heard a lot of people started assuming a lot and i have been called so many things by people over something i did not do.

Even some shameless soft sells unproffessionally published the rumour based on heresay, without talking to the partys involved, but i dont blame them. Some will publish anything just to sell.

I expected 9ice as a friend to come out and clear it up by announcing to people that it was not me he sang about in his song but till date he has not done so to reasons best known to him i guess.I called 9ice to talk about it and clear it up and he said so many things including that he will not come out and clear my name that has been dragged into a maliscous rumour.
I did not want to believe that 9ice has refused to clear it up because it is helping his album sales like some people have said.I did not want to believe it but I am happy i recorded the conversation and I want you all to hear for urselves what he said to me so that this rumour can stop once and for all.

Hear 9ice himself now and know that NOTHING OF THAT NATURE EVER HAPPENED BETWEEN TONI PAYNE AND RUGGEDMAN.

Pls after this,if anybody dares to mention my name in such a thing again its only God that will deal with such a person.

Ruggedman

The Life and Times Of DaGrin : The Voice of the Streets

God the almighty is the giver and taker of life, we came into this world as dust and we would return as dust.  Olaitan Olaonipekun (1987 – 2010) also known as DaGrin personified the hustle and struggle of Nigerians.  He came from a poor background. DaGrin was a student of the streets, he never forgot the streets and he would always be remembered by the streets.  DaGrin was one of the very few Nigerian artists to create an exclusive style of music, His music was mostly in his native dialect yoruba. He always delivered it exceptionally such that even those who weren’t yoruba could relate to his music. He was one of the very few Nigerian artists to release a well structured album, every song on his album was a tune, His album was the closet thing Nigerians had ever had to Hip-Hop, YES i said it, he was the first person out of Nigeria to deliver a REAL hip-hop album. His music crossed the borders of language and tribe.  His music was the truth.  His delivery was always on point, he never disappointed his fans.  He was humble with his music, he kept it 100 with himself and all his fans.  He was all about the struggle of the average Nigerian, he was diverse, he made records for the streets, clubs, ladies.  Every record he created was always on point, on records he featured on he always outdid his opponents, He was a real champion.

Dagrin,Gidilounge salutes You. You would never be forgotten.  Your music would live through us and everyone who appreciates good music.  Kudos to You Olaitan, The Voice of the streets.

Exclusive Lynxxx (Mr Change Your Parades) Interview

1. Lynxx, your the artist behind hit “Change Your Parade” for now thats as much your fans know about you, can you introduce yourself briefly?

LYNXXX: My names LYNXXX real name, Chukie Edozien, CEO / Co-owner of Syndik8 Records, Syndik8 Redroom Studios and Syndik8 Denim clothing.Yall may know me as Mr Change Ur Parade but im not always as animated as I was on that and cant wait for yall to hear more from me!

2. You’re relatively new on scene, when did you decide music was for you..?

LYNXXX: I’ve been writing music for about 10 years now and decided to go into music officially about 5years ago when we formed the Syndik8 Label but didnt put out music or push anything serious because i knew the time wasnt right. For one, the sort of sound i have was just being developed back then plus i was still in School and didnt live in Nigeria so i waited it out and spent most of my time crafting my entrepreneurial skills.

I moved back to Nigeria in the summer of 2009 and decided to put in work in my solo career based on the fact that i felt it was the right time to drop something and introduce myself to the rest of the world. I released CHANGE UR PARADE as a tester in November 2009 and the response was overwhelming in the clubs, radio and online. Based on that i decided to go into the studio to record the soon to be released “This is Lynxxx LP”.

3. Right now there’s so many artists all around, What is your motivation to go into the studio every day?

LYNXXX: Wat motivates me is what / who im surrounded by. Syndik8 Records is a unique record label. we dont sound like anyone else, Our in-house producers (iKon, Blink, Johnny Kashmere) have unique sounds and that separates us from the rest, plus I feel I have something new to offer, as u can hear… change ur parade is in a lane of its own and so are my other songs.  The industry is over saturated and monotonous, theres a lot of recycling going on and for that reason I would never conform and would always remain in my own lane doing what i do.

4. From a global standpoint, Who has had the largest influence on your music?

LYNXXX – Its hard to point at an individual alone but i respect 50cent not only for his music but for what he has achieved in such little time. I respect his relentless drive / attitude towards business and his music and thats kinda how i am when it comes to business and my music.

5. You’re on SYNDIK8 records currently. How did that happen plus tell us a bit more about your record label?

LYNXXX : Syndik8 Records was Est in 2004 by Director DRE, C.E.O LYNXXX and President IKON. Over the years we had decided to play the background and establish the label by focusing on production and in 2008 we had built the Syndik8 RedRoom Studio which has been home to alot of your favorite artists. On the production side of things, we are responsible for hits such as ”Making money by Sasha, We go hard by Ikechukwu feat MI, Dreamer by SDC and many more produced by Ikon and Nuttin By Lami produced by Blink ( a promising producer / artist you all would get familiar with really soon).

I am the 1st artist of the label to come out and we have a line up of artist with different sounds coming right after me.

6. “Change You Parade” is a very sick jam, cheers to that. But listening to the lyrics, it seems there was more behind that song, any bad experience with  a female  lol?

LYNXXX : LOL! funny thing is i actually get that question alot! truth be told its a mashup of a situation I’ve been involved in blended with my random thoughts and imaginations. Nothing too serious but something I believe dudes can relate to.

7. Word is that a video for “Change Your Parade” is in the works. How true is that.?

LYNXXX : The video was shot 1st week in March by Award Winning Video Director ‘Gbenga Salu’ and should be out end of April / 1st week in May. Im really excited to see how it turns out and i just want to assure you all that its gonna be worth the long wait cos alot was putting into planning and scripting this video.

8. What are your plans for the future and what should your fans be expecting from you. Any big name collabs?

LYNXXX: My brand is more than music. im an entrepreneur and i never think small time. Have a couple of ventures in the works that i wldnt reveal just yet but right now im focused on finishing my LP. I am about 80% in on this project, worked with the likes of WizKid, SDC, YQ, Naeto C, Enze (syndik8 affiliated female singer), Dipo (Synik8 Artist) and my inhouse producers, IKON, BLINK AND JOHNNIE KASHMERE. Im trying to keep collabos to a minimum because i want my audience to get a clear perception of who i am and what i represent.

9. Any last words for your fans and of course the haters?

B4 i sign off, i want yall to follow me on twitter : @chukie_lynxxx , joint the ”LYNXXX” page on facebook and LOG ON to my website www.thisislynxxx.com.
